The Last Word: A Personal Review of 2008

The Last Word: A Personal Review of 2008

Each year, many people experience different pieces of their lives. There are many things a year can bring you; new friends, job promotions, births, deaths, weddings, and of course, breakups. This past year has brought me a few mentioned and many more. I wanted to take the time to share with you what this past year has brought into my personal life’s experience, as it was an interesting year.

As I grew up, my mother always told me that whoever you spend New Year’s night with, is the person you’ll be spending a lot of time with throughout the year. This is completely true, as I kicked off the 2008 year with my cousin and best friend, Dean. We counted down the 2008 ball in Las Vegas along with Jason and his family. The night was filled with parties, luxury, and The Phantom of the Opera musical somewhere along the way. As we flew back to LA, I remember looking out the city lights and wondered what this upcoming year will offer me. I only knew so much.

January almost felt like a Rowland High, UCR, and AphiO reunion in the making. Thanks to my best childhood friend, Michaele, I celebrated my 23rd birthday at Club Façade in Hollywood. This birthday was also shared with my best friends Kristin and Ralph. We had our own VIP room, bottle service, and glamorous outfits. But that wasn’t the best part. The night was filled with surprises as many of my older high school friends, college buddies, and fraternity brothers came out to toast an unforgettable birthday. Until today, I still cherish that night, because there is nothing better in the world, than to be in the same room with old friends, new friends, and endless camera flashes.

February was a month full of tears. On the 18th of February, my mother’s dad passed away. It was a sad time for my family, especially my grandma who loved my papa so much. The morning of the funeral, I read my papa’s eulogy and shared with my family and close friends my experiences with him. As tears fell down my face, I remember one of the first things that came across my mind was that last Christmas was our last Christmas with him, and that this Christmas will be missing him.

March was a time dedicated for the healing of my family. My younger brother, Nate, finally turned 21 on March 20th. Dean and I flew him to Las Vegas on the night of his birthday and we introduced him to the world of alcohol, mixed drinks, and entertainment. We had such a great time, especially since the last time just the three of us hung out together was when I was in junior high. The rest of our family met up with us the days following and we enjoyed ourselves at what we do best…eating!

April and May were months that wrapped up my second semester at Cal State San Marcos. I had so much going on with school as all the projects and papers were due. For the first time, I interned with the school’s Student Health and Counseling Services as a Health Peer Educator. I worked close with the university’s Health Educator, Cathy Nguyen who taught me a lot about health promotion and management. It was such an awesome experience for me as I met new friends and attended many of the school’s events. We even got nominated for the TUKWUT Leadership Awards based on what we contributed to our Survivor Spring Break Awareness week. Although we didn’t win, we all enjoyed the opportunity. By the end of the semester, I completed over 15 papers, 8 oral presentations, and a handful of exams. It was all worth it, because for the first time, I was on the department’s Dean’s List! The letter was sent back to my Mom’s, and she called me super excited! Felt good to make mom proud!

The Summer of 2008 was full of surprises. I have moved from Escondido to Rancho Bernardo, got promoted and a pay raise TWICE, and partied in Hollywood at a high rate. But then again, it was a tough summer since the gas prices were soaring. My Honda Fit was nearly $40 for a full tank when normally I can get it at $18. Times were tough, but there were no limits to having fun. I remember in July, as we were celebrating my roommate Alicia’s 23rd birthday, I got word from my District Manager offering the position of Assistant Manager. It was a decision that I had to make, taking school into consideration. So now, I work full time and go to school full time. Hey, if the money is there, I can’t complain. I even made friends with the greatest coworkers: Ashley, Cat, Penelope, Catherine, Monica, Nina, and Steph! You guys rock! In August, Alicia, Ralph, and I moved into our own condo called The Summit in Rancho Bernardo. Although we pay a few bucks more than where we used to live, it is completely worth it! We have a view of the hills, our own garage, 2 pools, a workout room, huge closets, and the Rancho Bernardo zip code! And for those who are wondering, Life Rocks with Alicia and Ralph! There’s no Lo and Audrina here! Lolz.

September was a turnaround month from February. My sister, the only girl in our generation of the Tacto’s, married the man of her dreams, Mr. Daniel Newman. On September 6th, we celebrated the Tacto-Newman wedding right in our backyard in Walnut at the Royal Vista Golf Course. Family from all over the world came down to celebrate the occasion. As it was such a priceless moment watching my sister walk down the aisle, I couldn’t help but smile seeing how happy everyone was. I’m also glad that my little speech offered humor, memories, and tears for the Newlyweds. Welcome to the family Daniel. Who knows what 2009 can offer them, *ahem* baby diapers? Lolz

October through November was a time for me to focus on school and work. Being a fraction from completing my undergraduate degree and minor required me to maintain and raise those grades. Since I got promoted at work, I had to prove myself that I was well equipped for the job. Working retail and customer service has its downfalls, but it’s definitely something I enjoy and I admit, am good at! Lolz Somewhere in October, I also had my first small case hearing. Due to some crazy people out there, Alicia and I were sued for monetary reasons. But all in all, case is closed in our favor! (yay!)

Lastly, December gave me the Holiday spirit we all long for during the year. I went back home a few times in December to help my mom decorate the house, since it is usually me decorating it when I used to live there. The Christmas color scheme this year was Champagne Gold with a tint of Black. We called it “The Golden Christmas.” Christmas was celebrated at the Walnut house this year. We also decided to spice things up by having a non-Filipino food Christmas. (We had a Filipino Thanksgiving a month prior and we all voted on something different). So Chinese food it was! Cooked or catered we brought it on.

My plans for New Years Eve? As I look at my clock, it reads 8:16PM, meaning if I had party plans, I would have left the condo an hour ago. Due to certain circumstances, I will be celebrating the New Year in my condo with Alicia. We both work early tomorrow so instead of being ugly drunkers, we decided to have a clean New Years and catch up with how our Christmas’ went. Ralph never enjoyed going out for New Years Eve, so for the first time, he headed to West Hollywood to countdown the New Year.

Ironically, this year had its turns. From Las Vegas to Los Angeles, to San Diego and back, I have enjoyed what this year offered me. Who knows where I’ll be a year from now. One thing is for sure though, I will finally be holding my Bachelors Degree and I will hold myself to it. As for the person I will be spending the year mostly with, I guess it’s going to be my Tialitia!

To All My Friends and Family, Happy New Year!
I love you all and I wish you a safe and prosperous new year.

Always,
Chris Oliver

I Need a Comeback.

Aquarius
January 20 - February 17
Perhaps you are stuck in a mind-set that you can't seem to escape from, dear Aquarius. Be careful of taking action based on ideas that are more rooted in past fantasy than in present reality. Your emotions may be playing tricks on you, and you may find that you are attached to a dream that has more to do with feeding your ego than actually fulfilling your destiny. Question your own motives. You may find that you are better off redirecting your energy somewhere else.

Happy "Would've Been" 3 Years, JBX.

Horoscope!

Aquarius
January 20 - February 17
You enjoy your freedom, dear Aquarius. You are a very independent person and you hate it when anything gets in your way. That's all right, but you may want to take a look at your financial situation even if that's not really your thing. You tend to resent having to deal with these lowly material questions, but if you don't, you could severely restrict your freedom to live life to its fullest. Be reasonable about things.

JBX: THE BALANCE OF LOVE & LIFE

Good Afternoon Readers,

It's been about 4 months since I've moved down here to San Diego. So many changes have occured between now and then and I'm so eager as to figure out WHY things are the way they are now. I've been focusing so much on adjusting to my new lifestyle that I've realized how ignorant I can be when it comes to focusing on myself. I've never felt so emotional and sensitive to who I am and the choices I've made, especially in these past few weeks. I've learned that you can't deny how you feel, and even if you do, it will show in your behavior and your "everyday" facial expressions.

The Balance of Life and Love.

Life and Love are definitely two different things that have to have an equal balance in order for both to function accordingly. I have failed to hold that balance. As some of you might already know, Jaybe and have departed our ways. We have grown to be so dependent upon each other that we realized how individually different we have become since our beginning days. Basically, Love weighed more than Life. I have invested so much into our relationship that I realized that I lost who I was, the real me. I understand that people change through time, and that other social factors play a great part into shaping a person's traits and characteristics. But our bag grew to the point where we couldn't hold onto it any longer and I had to LET GO. How cliche this may sound, but listening to Britney Spears' unreleased song, LET GO (previously posted on my blog) portrayed a significant message into mine and Jaybe's relationship:

When you let go
Of all you've known
The butterflies fly
And you will see the way it goes
And all the love
Everything will be shown
So let go
Let go

- Britney Spears

I love him. He Loves Me.

We both initiated that our LOVE for eachother is still there. As a matter of fact, I believe it will ALWAYS be there. But for now, letting go is the best way to contain this love. We have an entire life to experience and if we held on any longer, the imbalance of love and life would lose signicance in each and every one of these life events. For example, Jaybe has never experienced the art of dating. Ever since he was younger, he was always involved in a committing relationship. He lost his innocence so fast that he realized how much he has lost as a person. I, too, have a lot to experience and lost ever since I have become more dependednt on Jaybe. I went through a downward cycle from giving everything to a minimum in a matter of years. Time can only tell where our relationship was heading.

We both wanted freedom.

Thinking that moving down to San Diego would enlighten our thoughts and indivuality, only led us into realizing that there is more to Life then just each other. A higher priority for the both of us is to complete our education; for Jaybe to complete his nursing program and for me to obtain a Master's Degree in Psychology. Through this, all the in-betweens from Now and Tomorrow are just as factors that will help us grow as indivuals. Who knows. We both have an equal chance on meeting new people, but that's exactly what we want. Getting to know others around us will play an important part into helping define who we are outside of our relationship. I can reconnect with my friends that I lost along the way, and Jaybe can develop new friendships with his fellow colleagues. Time will be invested more on getting-to-knows instead of having-to-go. Life will be more generated into a whole instead of a part, our relationship.

So Far, So Good.

Since our love for each other has applied into a stronger friendship, Jaybe and I have are still adjusted to living together. We both know that we can't sacrifice moving away or even move back home to LA since we have a life in San Diego to fulfill. We still have each other's support towards completing and reaching for our hopes and dreams. And until the day we will get there, JBX will only grow stronger.

THE HILLS - SAN DIEGO

If my life were on THE HILLS than this is what it would look like:

Britney Spears - Let Go

LYRICS OF THE MOMENT
--------------------
This is one of Britney's new songs. Although it can be very rare hearing her actually singing, and in this song she actually attempts, the lyrics yet so are beautiful. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

xTactology.
--------------------

It's written everywhere
I've even read it in my script
But when I thought it wasn't fair
I felt it on my lips, let go
I don't wanna be the one
I think you already know, oh

The feeling of going down way too deep
Holding on
So you won't lose your feet
Sometimes you just gotta trust
You gotta take that leap
And let go
Gotta let go

I've got a feeling
By a look you're through
Oh no
What you're revealing
I sit and pray
And I will pull through, oh yeah

When you let go
Of all you've known
The butterflies fly
And you will see the way it goes
And all the love
Everything will be shown
So let go
Let go

The touch of grass
The air
The sun it will rise
You will see so clearly
It will bring tears to your eyes
Maybe everything will be alright
So let go
You gotta let go

I've got a feeling
Right now
You feel it too
Oh, oh
This little song
Might be the one
That will tell us what to do
Oh, oh, ooh, ooh

These tears are overflowing
And never knowing why
All these years we've been
We've been hurting
We have to look inside
And try
To let go

You gotta let go
To love, you gotta let go
If you really wanna love
You gotta let go

Britney Spears' BLACKOUT Album Leaked!

Apparently, we just can't wait until her album comes out. All the tracks from "Blackout" have been leaked all over the internet. I just finished listening to all the songs and I just have to give that applaud that Britney does deserve.

The entire album is a mix of Euro-Pop meets City meets Dance/Clubs. I'm personally digging "Love is a State of Grace" as her ballad and "Break the Ice" as her second hit! LOVE IT!

If you haven't already, start the illegal downloading and dance with me!

John Mayer - Gravity

Adding a new label: Lyrics of the Moment. Trying to use songs to express my current state of mind, body, or soul.

Gravity
John Mayer

Gravity
Is working against me
And gravity
Wants to bring me down

Oh I'll never know
What makes this man
With all the love
That his heart can stand
Dream of ways
To throw it all away

Oh Gravity
Is working against me
And gravity
Wants to bring me down

Oh twice as much
Ain’t twice as good
And can't sustain
Like one half could
It's wanting more
It's gonna send me to my knees

instrumental

Oh twice as much
Ain’t twice as good
And can't sustain
Like one half could
It's wanting more
It's gonna send me to my knees

Oh gravity
Stay the hell away from me
Oh gravity
Has taken better men than me
Now how can that be?

Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
C’mon keep me where the light is
C’mon keep me where the light is
C’mon keep me where keep me where the light is

Heroes: Milo Ventimiglia

I finally saw my first episode of Season 2 lastnight! I admit, the show was a tid bit confusing, since it's been a couple of months since it's been a while since the Season Finale of Season 1 came out. But what I do want to point out is the improvement Milo Ventimiglia's character has made upon himself! Last season, they barely showed his chest. This season, whoa, shirtless and busting out his muscules in one episode! Love it! I can't find any online pictures of him being shirtless from lastnight's episode, but I will include him with some skin! Ohh! and the haircut! Fuckin sexy!

He makes me wanna La La!

CELEB OF THE DAY: MILO VENTIMIGLIA

JBX: Pizza, Pictures, and Poop!

Wow! We just got back from our dinner experience, celebrating our 2nd Year and 7 months of love. I'm actually going to leave it to Jaybe to share the moment with you from his blog.

As for me, I'm going to finish off how are day was spent, just like I promised.

We woke up around 10 in the morning. Changed into beach mode and packed our stuff and by 11, we were set to go. We had to drop by the mall first because the shoes I got for Jaybe included both the left pairs. So we headed to the North County mall and made that adjustment. Afterwards....MISSION BEACH!

The weather was beautiful. It was slightly warm with a light breeze. At this point, we were hungry. We wanted to try Fat Boy'z Pizza because we never really got the chance to try those giant pizza slices that everyone talked about. The environment was so festive, even after the fact that it wasn't Summer season anymore. There were a good amount of people and the rides added more to the festivities. I ordered a giant slice of the mushroom and sausage pizza while Jaybe ordered a Fat Boy'z Cheeseburger Special. We originally wanted to eat on the beach, but once we walked there, Jaybe changed his mind because of all the seagulls following us and the possibility that the sand could get into our food. So we walked back to the tables.

My pizza was yummie and huge!

Jaybe's burger was just as good!

After lunch, we headed back to the beach to sun bathe. We both weren't in that mood to actually get into the water. Instead we were laying in the sun for about 30-45 minutes. It felt so good finding that time to fianlly relax and closing out everything around me that required thought. Me and Jaybe even talked about so many things and of course, checking out some of the guys around us. We even took some silly pictures...

While we were doing just that, Jaybe got a little surprise on his hat...

...And a little surprise it was! Bird Poop!

After the beach, we headed back to the parking lot where we finished our day at Mission. We took more pictures next to our car and I admit, they came out pretty darn good...

After the beach, and driving shirtless down the 8 fwy, we headed to the Fashion Valley mall to walk around. We even had a little fun doing a small photoshoot in the Nordstrom's restroom. We were digging some of the stuff from Nordy's but seriously, we still can't seem to adjust to the malls here. It's so difficult for Jaybe and I to shop at places where we can't seem to find anything we like, like we normally are used to back in LA! I know that when H&M gets down here, that would be a fresh start! But yeah..we basically window shopped, and ended up with nada!

We headed back to Rancho Bernardo afterwards and wanted to go to Target and look at some digital camaras. Were planning on getting a new digital camara, but we're still researching on what's new and good. Any ideas? But yeah instead of Target, we just headed back home to chill until dinner. My maintanence light turned on for the first time with my new car, so I'm excited to get that done! Soon I hope.

Other than that, that conludes the first half of our day. To continue to how our dinner was, check it out at Jaybe's Blog>>>JAYBIO

2.7 First Half: Mission Beach

Just got back from our first half of the day. Mission Beach was very relaxing as we enjoyed ourselves lying down under the sun. So now were just chilling at our apartment and killing time before our dinner reservations. I hope he likes the place I chose...

To Be Continued & To Be Described...

JBX 2.7 Anniversary

Hip Hip! HOORAY! Today is mine and Jb's 2 year and 7 month Anniversary! Unfortunately, I had to work today, but we still made the best of our day. Since today is Friday, I didn't have to wake up all early for school. I basically slept in while JB still had his classes. I woke up to his text saying, "I miss you baby. I can't wait to see you..even if it's just for half an hour." That already brought a huge smile to my face! I knew today was going to be extra special.

I woke up and started to do some of my research for my Theories of Human Development course. I was stressing out because until today, I still haven't purchased my textbook and my assignment involved reading chapter 2. Other than that, I showered and got ready for work and once I got out, there JB was...with chinese food! Super suprising, and super delicious!

Work wasn't that bad today, actually it was quite slow for being a friday. I'm starting to get along more personally with my co-workers. Although most of them are women, I can't really complain. Towards the end of the day, I went shopping for JB! I'll show you what I got him towards the end of this post...

When JB picked me up at work, the first thing he told me was how much he loves me. At the same time, he busted out this sunflower! (Sunflowers are my most favorite flowers) and it was all wrapped in a purple ribbon.

After depositing my paycheck, I was so anxious to get home. It was so cute because when we pulled up to our parking lot, we noticed that the sprinklers were on and how impossible it would be to not getting wet. It was like those moments in the movies where we both try so hard, and ending up making it a fun game. Anyway, once I opened our door, everything looked so calm and romantic. JB set the table with a vase full of sunflowers, pebbles surrounding it, and candles that added soft sparkles. It was beautiful...

He told me that dinner would be ready in a few minutes and that I should go change clothes and check out the new Britney Spears "Gimme Gimme More" music video that he got from iTunes. I thought that the video was a little flat regarding how 95% of it was focusing black-haired Britney on a pole. But I do admit, it was vibrant and colorful!

I also got the chance to do some research on where I'm going to take him to dinner for our anniversary dinner tomorrow. Since it's still considered a surprise, I'll post more info on that after tomorrow.

"BABE! DINNER'S READY!!"

I walk out of our bedroom and into the living room. The lights were dimmed and there he was in the kitchen being all cute. "Welcome to JB's Kitchen. A 3-course meal is my special treat, just for you.." He cooked a whole meal! He even had a cute name for each entree.

First Course: "Pizza de la Hammie"

Second Course: "Pork Chop a la 2.7"

Third Course: "Peaches, Cream, and Crumbs"

Dinner was so special! This is our second anniversary spent here at our new home in San Diego! Last month, I forgot to mention that me and him just took a driving tour of what San Diego can offer us. From the Pacific Coast Highway Beaches, to the malls, to the Downtown Gas Lamp District, we loved learning more about what's around us. But today, was just as memorable!

After dinner I gave him my gift. Although I'm a little more on the less romantic side, I knew he would love these...

NIKE VANDAL LOWs

He super loved them! But stupid me...they were both the left pairs! So tomorrow were going to head back to the mall to fix that. Then we are going to start off our anniversary weekend! Its only a monthly anniversary and we have a whole day planned for tomorrow including heading to the beach! Love it.

As for now, I have my appointment with him in the shower..I think you know where this is heading for the remainder of the evening.

I love him. He loves me.

Britney Spears 2007 VMA Performance: My Critique

Britney, Britney, Britney...

After a resilient moment of not publishing any thoughts about the actions of my very own, Miss Britney Spears, I owe it to you on my inner-most feelings about this "pop princess."

I devoted a lot of time into learning more about Britney; what she wears, why she wears it, who she's with, why she's with them, where she is, why she is there, and WHAT THE HECK WAS SHE THINKING COMING BACK TO THE VMAS LIKE THAT!! I remember the night of the VMAS like it was the morning of 9/11. It was a school night, and instead of reading my second chapter of my Clinical Psychology textbook, I turned into MTV, only excited to see my celeb come back with a bang! Me and Jaybe even invited our friend to come over our apartment to celebrate this occassion! Around about an hour before the show, I already receieved a text message from an old friend of mine who always teased me about my not-so-obsession-anymore with Britney by saying, "WHAT DID BRITNEY JUST DO. ITS OVER FOR HER, MAN." I had no idea what he was justifying, but I had this overshadowing pause into thinking, "Oh shit! This is no IM A SLAVE FOR YOU performance!"

The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards starts now...Just pondering about this and waiting years for this moment brought my excitement and full attention to the flat screened tv. My first thought, "WHAT THE HECK IS SHE WEARING!?" I mean yea, it was fine...if the year was 1999! Britney came out wearing the most skankiest outfit for the sake of this occasion. (I LOVE YOU BRIT, I REALLY DO!) Then the performance. The image that keeps replaying in my mind was when she had that little laugh in the intro of her "Gimme Gimme More" song. She did it alright, giggled then used her finger to slick her hair behind her ear. Already a disappointing nod. Then there were the jiggles. BRITNEY IS NOT FAT. She's just got a little chub here and there. Adding all those sexual choreographic incidences just made this performance a little more tacky then what it turned out to be. I hated when the camaras turned to the other celebs when all they offered was pure shame. It seriously made me feel like I lost a game. BRITNEY HAS DONE SOMETHING SO UNIVERSAL.

Anyway, seconds after the performance, my cell phone was ringing up the butt. Friends and family who knew about my hardcore fascination for Britney texted me how shes over, career suicide, blah blah blah. I coudn't NOT agree.

Then there was beat. FUCKIN SARAH SILVERMAN had to make things worse then what it already was to comment on her babies and how they were a mistake. DUDE! CHOOSING HER TO HOST THE SHOW WAS THE MISTAKE! (eew! I sound so violent).

The next few days was a rampage, not only on Britney's "comeback performance" but on the VMAS itself. Critics and reviews were grinding every bit of detail from that night. I agree about how this year's VMAS sucked ass! I still look back and remember the BRITNEY, CHRISTINA, MADONNA moment in time! THE BEST VMA OPENING PERFORMANCE EVER!

Whatver fate has to offer, I just hope I remember to have my cell phone away from me hours before and after the next Britney Spears Performance.

Anyway, for the sake of your viewing pleasure, and for those of you who dares to go back into a time of shame, here's the not-so-comeback-performance:

T-A-C-T-O-L-O-G-Y

Well here it is.

I'm back! It's been a long time since I last posted something worth reading. But then again, it was my vacation. Its been about 2 months since I last posted something about my life. I ended my first season with this blog during my vacation at the Philippines. I apologize for that delay. But since then, there has been an array of changes that has undergone throughout my life, declaring that a new season has yet to begin. Season 2. Where on Earth was I thinking that I should break this blog into seasons? It's not exactly a show on tv, yet I believe that this is the start of something new.

First off, let me throw you a little pitch of what my life is about.

I'm a 22 year old college student who recently moved to San Diego, CA with my boyfriend JAYBIO. I premiered this blog around April of this year and since then, my life has been more of a reality-show website. I enjoy many cultures of life, especially celebrity news and gossip. I enjoy posting random and sometimes explicit pictures of many popular celebrities who I admire for beauty, fashion, sex appeal, or even just a dramatic shot. I am a dedicated Britney Spears fan, yet I'm still trying to figure out about her true self as, I'm sure, we're all trying to do. I also like to travel and experience as many restauants and eateries as much as possible, especially with Jaybe. Since our recent move to San Diego is still undergoing observation, expect many surprises. This is going to be an interesting transition since I will have to adjust from our normal "Hollywood Lifestyle" to the "Sunny Dee of SD"
